 100 Things About Me

  1. I was born June 1st 1978
  2. Under the window sill in my parents’ living room.
  3. Homebirth is the norm rather than the exception in The Netherlands, I can’t imagine EVER having a homebirth.
  4. I had my daughter in a hospital, WITH an epidural.
  5. The anesthesiologist sounded like Apu from the Simpsons.
  6. I was ready to offer him a kidney after he made the ouch go away.
  7. I adore my daughter with every fiber of my being.
  8. She is my Sun, my Moon and my Stars
  9. She also drives me nuts on a regular basis.
  10. I started reading at a very early age.
  11. My mother says that it was so I could read the TV Guide.
  12. There may be some truth to that.
  13. Whatever the reason for starting, it’s something I still greatly enjoy doing on a daily basis.
  14. My favorite Genre is Fantasy.
  15. David and Leigh Eddings are masters of the genre.
  16. Robin Hobb is right up there with them.
  17. Spent every child hood summer on a boat.
  18. My Dad bought me a sailboat.
  19. He took me out in it, told me to pay attention and after twenty minutes sent me out on my own.
  20. I was fine.
  21. Should have started earlier though because in my teens I dropped it completely.
  22. My great uncle is the designer of the Ufo Sailboat.
  23. My family on my father’s side is all about the boats.
  24. Spending a childhood on a boat is great, loses it shine at the teens though
  25. I did Gymnastics as a child, but was too much of a wimp for the spectacular stuff
  26. I started Ballroom dancing in my teens.
  27. Entered competitions with it and the competition team became a group of very close friends.
  28. The ‘group’, as we referred to ourselves as, spent almost every night in our house for an entire summer.
  29. I remember that as one of the best summers of my life.
  30. My parents rock for allowing that.
  31. They also let us go away for weekends on their boat.
  32. Got my first boyfriend in that time.
  33. I wrecked his head, he broke my heart.
  34. Even though I am really happy in my current relationship and plan to grow old with this man, my heart still twinges sometimes at the thought of my ex.
  35. I realize that this is due to nostalgia.
  36. I am very much prone to nostalgia.
  37. I became involved in a biker club when I was 16.
  38. Had an amazing time with them, going to Rallies and parties.
  39. Always said I would never date a club-member, someone with chest-hair and/or someone with a beard.
  40. Met my “Paddy” at a Halloween party in Wales with the club.
  41. All three applie(d) to him.
  42. Bikes are no longer on the scene.
  43. This may very well change in the very near future.
  44. I am finding it very hard to come up with one hundred things about me.
  45. My favorite color is Lilac.
  46. My favorite number is 16.
  47. My eyes are green/blue.
  48. I was born with a droopy eye-lid.
  49. I was missing a muscle in my eye-lid but the doctor’s copped on too late.
  50. The result was crossed eyes and reduced vision.
  51. I can only properly see with my right eye when I wear a contact lens.
  52. My left eye is pretty much useless.
  53. My last eye corrective surgery left me with a slight case of double vision.
  54. I always thought I would not be able to learn to drive because of this.
  55. Paddy suggested I give it a try anyway and take lessons.
  56. I took lessons and am now driving my little Fiat Punto every day.
  57. Am VERY proud of myself for persevering.
  58. It scared me half to death in the beginning.
  59. It significantly changed my life for the better. The freedom is amazing.
  60. No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak” is the song that reminds of losing my best friend when I broke up with the boy from nr 32. They were the same person.
  61. I know one day you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be the sun, in somebody else’s sky” was the Pearl Jam lyric that reduced me to tears after losing the ex. It made me realize that I wanted him to be happy, and if I couldn’t be the one that made him happy, I wanted him to find someone that could.
  62. That was a hard realization to come to.
  63. I LOVE ice-cream
  64. I have an extremely short fuse.
  65. No, really, it’s almost an “innie” rather than an “outie”, that’s how short.
  66. I hate it when people don’t indicate in traffic.
  67. I am not a mind-reader people!
  68. I have a hard time letting things go.
  69. I can obsess about things from a news story that effected me to loud neighbors.
  70. A news-story about child abuse will make me cry and I will think about for weeks.
  71. If I ever get my hands on a child-abuser, he/she will pray to be allowed to die.
  72. I value and love my friends deeply.
  73. It’s all about the quality, not the quantity with me.
  74. I am not religious in the generic sense of the word.
  75. I do “believe” though.
  76. My In-Laws are Born Again Christians.
  77. It’s not a problem although it did used to worry me.

  82. One of the best moves I ever made was to move to Ireland.
  83. I do get homesick for the Netherlands every now and then.
  84. Staying in Ireland is the best thing for me and my family though.
  85. I think Billy Connelly is the funniest comedian on the planet.
  86. When my mother and I start to laugh, we take forever to stop.
  87. I love laughing like that.
  88. My daughter is also very funny.
  89. She cracks me up.
  90. We are very affectionate together as a family.
  91. There are lots of hugs and kisses everyday.
  92. I think that’s the way a family should be; loving.
  93. I take parenthood extremely seriously.
  94. Some people say I go overboard with it.
  95. I don’t care.
  96. The responsibility for another person’s life, for their childhood, for shaping them as humans is not to be taken lightly in my book.
  97. I did not exactly take to motherhood like a duck to water though.
  98. Think I am a pretty good one now though.
  99. My daughter and my boyfriend think so anyway.
  100. Not a day goes by that I don’t realize how lucky I am.
